Packing for a yacht charter is different from a hotel holiday. Space is limited, shoes must be non-marking, and the dress code shifts between casual daytime and elegant evenings.
The Golden Rule: Soft Luggage Only
Hard-shell suitcases are difficult to store on yachts. Pack in soft duffel bags or collapsible luggage that can be stored flat once unpacked.
Daytime Essentials
- Swimwear (2–3 sets)
- Lightweight cover-ups and linen shirts
- SPF 50+ reef-safe sunscreen
- Quality sunglasses with a strap
- Wide-brim sun hat
- Non-marking flat shoes or deck shoes
- Light waterproof jacket (for evening breezes)
Evening Wear
Dinners on deck or at port restaurants call for smart-casual to elegant attire. For men, linen trousers and a collared shirt. For women, a maxi dress or elegant separates. One dressier outfit is useful for onshore dining in Saint-Tropez or Monaco.
What Not to Bring
- Hard suitcases
- High heels or hard-soled shoes (they damage teak decks)
- Excessive luggage — less is more on a yacht
- Dark-soled shoes that leave marks
