Navigating port rules and anchoring regulations is a critical part of any French Riviera yacht charter. Both Saint-Tropez and Monaco have specific rules that affect where you can anchor, how long you can stay, and what fees apply.
Saint-Tropez Port & Anchoring Rules
Port Berths
The Port of Saint-Tropez offers berths for yachts up to 60m. During peak season, berths must be reserved well in advance. The nearby Port of Cogolin and Port Grimaud provide alternative mooring for larger vessels.
Anchoring Zones
Anchoring in the Bay of Pampelonne is permitted in designated zones. The seagrass (Posidonia) protection areas restrict anchoring in certain spots — yachts must use eco-moorings where available.
Monaco Port & Anchoring Rules
Port Hercules
Port Hercules is Monaco's primary marina, accommodating superyachts up to 120m+. Berth allocation is managed by the Société d'Exploitation des Ports de Monaco. During major events (Grand Prix, Yacht Show), availability is extremely limited.
Anchoring
Anchoring is prohibited in most Monégasque waters. Yachts must use designated anchorage areas or secure a berth in port.
